TREATMENT

PHILOSOPHY

Cornerstone provides physical therapy that is oriented toward addressing the cause of your pain or dysfunction, not merely the symptoms.

Cornerstone provides physical therapy that is oriented toward addressing the cause of your pain or dysfunction, not merely the symptoms. This is accomplished through an evaluation and treatment process that includes addressing both the structural and functional needs of each patient. Individual needs and goals are taken into consideration when planning and implementing the physical therapy plan of care.

STRUCTURAL THERAPY

The structural needs of the patient may include things like the evaluation and treatment of muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, nervous system components and connective tissue systems. This is done through the use of manual physical therapy, which is a hands-on approach to treating the individual needs of each person.

Structural treatment techniques may include:

  • Muscle Energy Technique

  • Joint Mobilization

  • Strain/Counterstrain

  • Myofascial Release(direct/indirect)

  • Cranial/Craniosacral Therapy

  • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT)

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

FUNCTIONAL THERAPY

Each patient also has functional needs. The ultimate goal of every physical therapy encounter is to achieve or restore optimal levels of function and symptom relief. Functional needs include the ability to accomplish various tasks of everyday life. Examples could include such things as the ability to lift your head, roll, crawl, stand, walk, run, get dressed, bend, lift, reach, work, play and participate in sports/leisure activities.

Functional treatment techniques may include:
  • Stretching

  • Strengthening

  • Range of motion re-education

  • Balance/Coordination Training

  • Functional Education/Re-education

  • Implementation of a Home Exercise Program that is specific to your needs
